I think it's both. Good governance has emerged as a global trend in recent years, particularly in Europe and North America, where Anti-Corruption Technologies—from statistical tools and performance measurements to international conferences and declarations—have gained prominence. The Global North has led to institutionalizing an integrity industry, such as good governance standards, presenting them as the definitive solution to corruption in sport.

However, for many in the Global South, good governance is seen more as a trend than a need. Officials and academics adopt these technologies and frameworks uncritically, attempting to replicate models designed for different contexts without fully addressing the unique challenges we face. Adapting these governance concepts to resonate with local realities is an ongoing challenge.

Good governance is both a trend and a need. Although it is, in specific ways, shaping the future of Global Sport, its true potential will only be realized when its implementation goes beyond model repetition and local implementation is tested.
